The Order of the Rose is a puritan group; an offshoot of 'Catholicism' that arose in ancient times when the gods still openly roamed the realm of humans, sowing chaos and bloodshed in their wake. The Knights of the order are well trained in the arcane, believing it to be a necessary evil that allows them to do their work as the hands of the one, true God, in their battle to eliminate the seeds of heathenry from the world. That is to say, they ruthlessly hunt down supernatural beings and their offspring. They have no qualms in slaying a child, as a child with the blood of the gods is tainted and a scourge upon the land, not a lamb of God to be protected. Though a few beings do escape their wrath, it is simply because their abilities are useful in sniffing out other supernatural beings, and they are therefore collared and forced to do the bidding on the order.
Unbeknownst to the order, what they believe to be God is not the Abrahamic God at all, but rather a much older and darker god known as Chernobog who uses the easily swayed humans as his puppets in a ploy for power. The more followers he has and the more seeds sown, the stronger he becomes, meanwhile by killing the offspring and rooting out the followers of the other gods, he weakens them.
The order is ruled by The Grand Council, the oldest members of the sect who, due to wisdom and devotion, have risen to their seats of power. The Grand Council is made up of 8 members, the Archchancellor and 7 chancellors below him.
The Archchancellor is Miko Svoboda, a son of Chernobog whom, due to certain gifts bestowed upon him by his godly parent, is nigh immortal. His aging is slowed considerably and he has been the Archchancellor since the creation of the Order. His true nature is known only to the other chancellors, and even then any who threaten to out him are immediately eliminated and replaced by a more loyal follower. They exist solely to keep track of the births and deaths of supernatural beings and to send units out accordingly. It's very rare that a chancellor takes on a target themselves, and even rarer that Miko must step in. There has only been once instance in their hundreds of years of existence that the Archchancellor has had to eliminate a target himself.
The chancellors themselves are supernatural beings who worship Chernobog and seek to further his foothold on the earthly planes. Very rare is it a human ever finds themselves with a seat on the council.
